HOW TO

How to completely remove GoToMeeting Preferences from Mac

Issue

Objective

Completely remove GoToMeeting session Preferences from Mac by deleting the plist file.

Environment

  • GoToMeeting
  • GoToWebinar
  • GoToTraining
  • Mac OSX

Procedure

Use the GoToMeeting Removal Tool for OSX:
The GoToMeeting Removal Tool will remove all GoToMeeting applications and preference files from the system.

  1. Download the tool here
  2. Extract the .zip file
  3. Run GoToMeeting Removal Tool
    • Tip: Some users have a setting enabled to not allow applications from unsigned developers. You can right click on the tool and select Open and you should get a prompt to open anyway.
    • If this does not work, then click the Apple menu, go to System Preferences, System and Security, General, (click the lock in the bottom left if settings are greyed out), and change the Allow apps downloaded from to Anywhere. Please change this setting back to where it was before disconnecting with the user

  4. Reboot if you are still having trouble using GoToMeeting on the Mac after using the GoToMeeting Removal Tool

Manual Removal:
The GoToMeeting application may be in any of three locations:

  • /Applications
  • ~/Applications
  • ~/Desktop

The ~ is a shortcut for the current user's home folder. If the current user has an Applications folder in their home folder then GoToMeeting will be placed there. If not, then it will be placed in the System Applications folder. Older versions of GoToMeeting were placed on the user's desktop.

Note: The application file can be moved anywhere on the system. If the user prefers it to be in the Applications folder they can simply drag it there when GoToMeeting is not running.

In addition to the application itself there is a preference file (plist) that will store settings.

Walkthrough:
The user Library is hidden from normal view in Finder.

  1. Click Finder in the Dock
  2. Click Go
  3. Hold the Alt/Option key
  4. Click Library (between Home and Computer -- See Fig.1)
  5. Drag com.citrixonline.GoToMeeting.plist to Trash
  6. Empty Trash

If this method does not seem to work:

  1. Click Finder in the Dock
  2. Click Go
  3. Click Go to Folder...
  4. Type ~/Library
  5. Double click Preferences
  6. Drag com.citrixonline.GoToMeeting.plist to Trash
  7. Empty Trash
