QUESTION AND ANSWER

How can I determine the cause of Packet Loss at the Host Computer?

Issue

Objective

Environment

GoToMyPC
Host

Procedure

Answer

Information that is transmitted over the Internet is sent in the form of packets. Packet loss happens when these packets of information dont reach their scheduled destination. In this case, the scheduled destination is GoToMyPCs servers. The cause for Packet Loss is typically an intermittent wireless connection or network congestion.
If the connection is wireless, check to see if moving closer to the router improves the connection.
Ping Test:
Run in the background of both Client and Host when connected. When the Host is experiencing Packet Loss, the latency should also show in the ping test. The test proves that it is the internet connection and not isolated to the GoToMyPC connection.

Click Start
Click Run
Type cmd and press Enter (a black window will pop up)
Type ping -t www.google.com and press Enter
Let the test run in the background while connecting to Host.
Test Internet Speed:
Browse to either speedtest.net or speedof.me and run a Speed Test.
The Upload and Download speeds are recommended to be at least 1Mbps
If the speed is not at least the recommended, please refer to their ISP for further solution or recommendations.
